I remember meeting Runeet and Mayank for the first time last summer (it was “sandals and V-neck” weather, if you can believe it). Special credit goes to Mayank who had just arrived from India the day before we met. How he was able to stay alert due to the jet lag is beyond me?! I also met Runeet’s parents that evening and remember diving home thinking, “Wow, what a great family.” Little did I know that thought would be crossing my mind countless times during the weddings and reception. Runeet and Mayank’s marriage was unique because they held both a Sikh ceremony and a Hindu ceremony. Runeet’s family is Sikh and Mayank’s family is Hindu. It was so wonderful that they honored both traditions and held two ceremonies. Both events were filled with so much color, laughter, family, traditions, and celebration. More details about a Sikh wedding will be in an upcoming post, but here is a brief glimpse into Runeet and Mayank’s Sikh Ceremony.
The day began with Runeet putting on her beautiful Lehenga (bridal dress) and doing her makeup. The Lehenga was absolutely beautiful, with intricate beading, jewelry, bright colors- it looked perfect on her. Details of the Lehenga can be seen in the small blog-post header image above.

While Runeet was getting ready, Mayank and his family arrived at the Gurdwara and were greeted by the priest and Runeet’s family. A quick prayer was performed and then everybody was served chai and appetizers.

The music began in the prayer hall and the guests arrived, followed by Mayank, who sat in the front center. Runeet entered, followed by her closest relatives and sat next to Mayank. The beautiful ceremony began with prayers, followed by music and hymns.
