A Bellingham portrait photography session with Brittany, her American Bulldog- Chloe, and Tanvir’s Doberman Pinscher- Rocky.

Two things happen when you meet Brittany:

  1. You experience her friendly and warm personality
  2. You feel like you’ve known her for years

Brittany is one of those few people who naturally exhibits charisma and joy.  For the past seven years that I’ve known Brittany, she has always been happy, optimistic, and cheerful.

Brittany is an active runner, competing in many races around Seattle and Bellingham, WA.  She helps raise donations for diabetes research and other similar programs. As manager of our tea store, she consistently inspired those around her (employees and customers) to follow a lifestyle of good health and exercise.  She is driven to be successful and genuinely cares for the well being of friends and family around her.  One of the things I really appreciate about Brittany is the love she has shown towards my family and parents. (Thanks Brittany)

Years ago, I remember walking around the Seattle U campus with my friend, Jennifer, as we discussed the value of surrounding yourself with happy people.  To this day, that conversation has stuck with me, and Brittany is one of those happy people we were talking about.  Her energy and spirit has a way of seeping into your own soul so you also feel uplifted and happy.

This awesome photo shoot was the result of some fun planning and discussions.  Five years ago, Brittany was so excited when she got her American Bulldog, Chloe.  At the time, Chloe was only two months old, and I remember Brittany telling us about her… she even brought Chloe over so we could meet her!  Through the years, Brittany and Chloe have grown close together and I wanted to do a photo shoot to capture their friendship and bond.

The Doberman in these photographs belongs to my brother and fellow photographer, Tanvir.  Two years ago, Rocky was only two months old when Tanvir got him, and Brittany was there to help.  Rocky loves Brittany and we thought it would be awesome to bring him into the photo shoot! Rocky is a happy, loving dog, and his energy was present during our photo shoot. Luckily, Tanvir helped handle both Rocky and Chloe. In fact, we had a full crew for this photo shoot: Mundir Sidhu was also on location to help guide Brittany and take ‘behind the scenes’ photos that will only be posted to my Facebook fan page. Happy New Year!

It seems like only yesterday I wrote a post about New Year resolutions, and now here we are again. “time flies.” One year ago, that post began with the quote, “Every accomplishment begins with the decision to try,” and I think that’s a very accurate way to summarize 2011.

It’s certainly been a year of growth, challenges, reflection, excitement, love, tears, and strength.  This year presented some huge unexpected challenges in my personal life, but they promoted growth, and for that I’m thankful.

This year also brought some of the greatest joys of my life. In August, I proposed to my beautiful girlfriend, Jasmine, on a private sailboat on San Francisco Bay. The sun was shining as Jasmine and I, and our brothers, sailed beneath the Golden Gate Bridge towards Angel Island.  Upon reaching Ayala Cove, we saw deer on the shore and the captain slowed the boat. Jasmine and I moved to the front…she turned towards the Golden Gate Bridge then back towards me, where I dropped to my knee, held her hands, and proposed. It was a very happy moment, and it meant a lot to share that joy with our younger brothers.

For me, if there’s a particular theme to take away from 2011, it’s the importance and value of family & friends. I owe everything to my parents, who for 31 years have taught me about life through their selfless actions. They have always been my inspiration, and I forever look up to the values and lessons they have taught me. It is because of them, and my two brothers, that I’m the person I am today.

In 2011, time after time, I was humbled by those around me. The greatest blessing of photography is having the opportunity to share in the most special and joyous moments of people’s lives. What began as a personal passion, an outlet for expression, has become much more- something bigger than I ever imagined. It has become a source of inspiration, education, and insight. Photography has become my window into self-reflection and the fuel for personal growth. It has brought some very amazing and wonderful people into my life.

Each couple I’ve photographed this year has taught me something about love, something that I’ve mindfully incorporated into my own relationships.  I witnessed life’s strongest bonds as newborn babies blessed some of my closest friends.  I felt the powerful connection of God and family bonds as I photographed weddings in the Christian, Hindu, and Sikh traditions.

Being a part of these joyous occasions is the most rewarding, adrenaline-releasing, yet humbling experience.  I would like to thank everyone who has supported me over the past year. It is your encouragement that fuels my motivation to continue pushing my own boundaries.

2012 is already shaping up to be an exciting year and I’m looking forward to the upcoming projects.  There are a lot of new, big things churning in the background and it will be fun to push personal boundaries.

Your work is to discover your work and then with all your heart give yourself to it –Buddha

Here are a few pictures from 2011 that made me smile. They are presented in no particular order… Some may have been posted earlier this year, and some may not.  I spent some time looking through photographs and selected some at random. Hope you guys enjoy and I’m looking forward to all the new projects in 2012! It’s going to be a fun, busy, and exciting year!!

A huge thank you to everyone, and I wish you all a very happy 2012.

The Wong family photo session at Luther Burbank Park was so much fun! It’s times like these that make me feel so lucky to pursue my photography passion.  For years I’ve told my fiancé, Jasmine, how much I love people.  Spending time with people brings me so much energy and this experience was no different. Derek and Michele are blessed with 3 very awesome children!

D, Mick, and Maya made it so easy.  Not only were they bursting with energy and happiness, but also they were so cooperative and willing to be creative for the photographs. They showed enthusiasm and excitement, which was contagious. Everybody, including mom and dad, were having fun on the playground, running through the park, and climbing on the rocks.  By the end of the photo shoot, it felt like I had known the Wong family for years, even though we had only met for the first time.

The twin boys, Derek (‘D’) and Michael (‘Mick’), were so talkative and fun to hang out with…not to mention they have the cutest, most adorable, younger sister- Maya.   Maya was a natural and looooved the camera. She was posing, smiling, and having a great time with her two older brothers.

I have to thank the Wong family for giving me the opportunity to do this photo shoot. It brought me so much joy, and I hope these photos bring you a smile for years to come.
